I formed IDEA Ltd. in 1981. At the time, I specialized in training design and facilitation, mostly of soft skills courses. Over the years I’ve expanded the business to include other areas in which I have an interest, including web design and photography. I strongly believe that variety, diversity, and passion increase the quality of execution in all areas. If nothing else, it certainly keeps me busy!

On the training side my mission has always been to help people develop to their ultimate potential by providing them with opportunities for reflection and the skills to take action.

I define ultimate potential as the ability to achieve great results through efficient effort, individually and through interaction and collaboration with others.

It’s my belief that people should enjoy themselves in the process of doing whatever it is they do…and I strive for that “thinking feeling” in everything I do.

Our journey should be fun. By fun, I mean engaging, entertaining and involving, in the context of the work at hand. It must never be at the expense of our work, or of the people we work with.

I have been working in adult education and facilitation since 1981. My front-line and management experience in financial and other business sectors has helped me link the development of organizations’ human resources to their operational performance.

I’ve facilitated programs in team building, performance management, leadership, interpersonal communication, motivation, creative problem solving, presentation skills, and trainer training. I have designed a wide range of technical and soft skills programs, and have developed resources in areas such as job sharing, flextime, and part-time work.

Along with being a member of General Electric’s Workout! facilitation team, I used similar processes to facilitate team problem solving for a variety of private, public, and not for profit sector clients. I was also involved in several 360° Performance Feedback initiatives with large Canadian financial organizations, and facilitated feedback sessions with individuals and groups in Canada and the United Kingdom. Recently I worked with Desjardins General Insurance Group to develop and facilitate a Corporate Foundations program to help employees understand and increase their alignment with their mission, vision, values and organizational culture. I’ve worked with a variety of participants, from unionized personnel in manufacturing and government to senior executives in the financial sector.

I am the author of the Learning Style Questionnaire, published by HRD Press. This questionnaire is required reading in programs at the University of Oklahoma, among others. I was a member of the facilitation team and practicum supervisor at OISE/UT for their Certificate in Training and Development for many years, and now fulfill the same role at the SEEC/CODI Master’s Certificate in Adult Training and Development program at the Schulich Executive Education Centre. I have completed postgraduate level studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies In Education, and hold the equivalent of a Master’s Degree in Adult Education.

I’m qualified to administer and facilitate interpretation of the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator, a self assessment instrument that has application in training, team-building, and organizational development. I’m also certified to administer and facilitate interpretation and application of OneSmartWorld’s human resource development solutions. I’ve worked with Situational Leadership and Social Styles processes and assessment tools for over 20 years and am a certified facilitator for OnTheMark’s experiential program, “Change of Course”.

I’ve designed websites for organizations and individuals using leading-edge content management systems including WordPress, Drupal and Joomla.  These systems all facilitate the development of engaging, dynamic and interactive websites. They’re also easier for the client to maintain than static websites.

Lately I’ve focused primarily on WordPress. I find it’s easy and quick to install and simple to customize, given the number of high quality themes and extensions already available. This simplifies the development process and reduces costs for the client.

I usually prefer to develop a site and then turn it over to the client for ongoing maintenance, and offer training and ongoing support to facilitate this and keep site software up to date. I also provide hosting at reasonable rates*.
